Have you ever felt like a hamster on a wheel with your tidying efforts?

You are not alone! For years I felt like a hamster getting nowhere with my tidying despite relentless effort. Doing something all the time does not make one an expert nor does it guarantee success. Like with singing, if you practice a phrase over and over a hundred times but you are out of tune every time, what are you reinforcing? You will get better and better at being out of tune. Will it improve your singing? Nope. Similarly with tidying if our fundamental approach is skewed how can we expect lasting results no matter how many times we try?

Let's be honest. We have all gone the route of stuffing things into drawers, and shoving overflowing laundry baskets into closets. And we all know the flurry of 'cleaning' right before guests arrive! We go to great lengths to create an illusion of a clutter free space only to revert back soon after. Clutter is clutter - visible or temporarily invisible and there is no hiding from this hard fact. Short cuts only set us up for a vicious cycle of more of the same. Isn't it better to declutter mindfully and systematically and organize in a manner that ensures lasting results and is sustainable? It takes commitment and a lot of calorie burning, but the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow makes it worthwhile.
