We often put off routine chores because we perceive them as ‘time and energy hoggers’. But in reality they can be accomplished in minutes quite effortlessly. It’s only when we keep putting them off that they transform into clutter and pile ups that take more time and effort to get done. Little tasks done consistently, right away, save us time and energy in the long run (and also the stress and frustration caused by pile ups!) Some chores are unavoidable, so you might as well work smart and stay on top!
Here is a challenge for you to try. Use the stopwatch feature on your phone and write down or make mental note of your findings. Add other routine chores to the list if you are curious to find out more!
Routine Chore | How long you think it will take to do | How long it actually takes (with no distractions) |
Unloading the dishwasher
Sorting through the day's mail
folding a modest load of laundry
clearing the entryway (shoes, miscellaneous items)
Making the bed (set minimum standards, nothing fancy - just basic) |
Try this timing challenge! You might be pleasantly surprised at how little time some routine chores actually take as opposed to our mental perceptions.
I would love to hear what you discover!
Sincerely,
Meera
