The True Cost of Clutter

In today's world 'buying' has become so easy! We consume 'stuff' like there is no tomorrow. Instant gratification! The volume of 'stuff' in our homes keeps growing insidiously. An LA Times article said that an average American home has 300,000 things! Our homes are storage spaces for accumulated 'stuff' where we incidentally happen to live.
Clutter comes at a cost that goes deeper than just money. Clutter, both seen and unseen (stowed away in drawers and cabinets and fancy bins), whether at home or at your workplace:
occupies space (which could potentially be used for things or activities you cherish)
makes it hard to find what you need when you need it
wastes time and energy looking for misplaced items
costs us money because we often repurchase items we know we have somewhere but can’t find
causes stress, often leading to arguments, yelling and emotional outbursts
occupies mental space because you worry about the clutter
makes you feel inadequate
causes delays because you can’t find what you need when you need it
negatively impacts focus and productivity
can disrupt sleep
What does it take to stop letting our 'stuff' dictate our life?
Hiding things away- in bins, on shelves, in cabinets, in the attic, in the garage is not the solution. The KonMari Method® teaches us to approach the issue mindfully. We need to think outside the box and beyond the bins, and delve into our own past, present and our purchasing habits to introspect and ask ourselves why we buy, and why we hold on to stuff and find it hard to let go. It is a process. It takes commitment and a mindset shift but the results are truly life changing. Shifting our focus from what to 'throw away' to mindfully choosing what to keep is the key to decluttering and organizing that lasts. Trained and certified in the KonMari® Method, I can help you discover the magic of tidying and organizing in a mindful and sustainable way for positive changes that last and enrich your life.
Motivation guru Robin Sharma has said- 'change is difficult in the beginning, messy in the middle, glorious in the end.'
So is decluttering.
Sincerely,
Meera
